The Best Devices That I Alexander Michael Gittens Have Ever Purchased: Part I

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

It is unfortunate but true that in today’s marketplace you’re sometimes happy just to receive a product that performs as well as advertised. Never lost for words, modern marketers dish out a generous serving of superlatives for even the most mundane products. Yes I’ve ordered a serving of “fire-grilled vegetables” only to receive soggy greens that went from the freezer to the microwave to my plate and never once came close to a fire or grill. But the purpose here is not to lament or to even promote one brand over another, I have simply had three products perform way above and beyond what I could have anticipated and I would like to proclaim this very welcome exception to the rule.

1. Headset with Microphone for the Cordless Phone

Most people probably have at least one cordless phone in their house. This is a great invention that frees one from being bound to a wall or chair while conversing telephonically. In 1998 I purchased a headset attachment for my cordless phone and have never looked back. From that day up until today I have been immeasurably more productive while on the phone. This is how it works, when I place the headset on during a call, I clip the handset to my belt or put it in my pocket. At this point I am able to communicate and use both of my hands for other tasks.

When talking with family members, I often use that time to clean the kitchen and bathroom or take out the garbage. I can type while talking, fold clothes or make the bed. Over the last seven years that I have been using the headset I have leveraged 100s of hours and increased personal productivity.

My favorite headset has not been the most expensive model but rather a light-weight $30.00 model from a national chain. I opted for the $10.00 three-year warranty and have replaced the headset once for a shorted wire. Check on the side of your cordless phone, if you have a headphone jack you are $30.00 away from a profound lifestyle enhancer.

If you value your time and spend more than 15 minutes on the phone a day, during your next call you could be emptying the dishwasher, taking out the garbage and picking up toys off the lawn. If you become an advanced user (like me) you might even schedule your chores around weekly calls to your parents or siblings.

Please check back tomorrow for Part Two of the best devices that I have ever purchased. The complete set of articles about this and other topics can be found on my website http://www.alexandergittens.com
