A Letter to My Cousin Wednesday, June 5, 2008 I am not ever occupied with concerns for offending people that I love. I challenge myself to accept them as they are while pushing them to be the best that they can be. I trust them to forgive me when I am wrong and support me when I am down. As I grow older I'm realizing more and more that the singularity of mind and purpose that I aspire to cannot be achieved through discussions, ideals or rhetoric. Actions alone will parlay all that I believe and results will be the way that they are externally judged. While most times not fair or desirable, it is my reality. In this we are peers cousin; I implore you, only as I implore myself, to set aside all views, positions and stances that are contra success. You have and will face immense external forces; you will however be responsible for never getting in your own way. Replace you for me in this letter and you have a transcript of my internal dialog. Every word has become a mantra that plays in an endless personal cerebral loop. I know that you have a lot of inner discussion as well and indeed the odd discourse, in this again we are colleagues. However, your fate is written by the strength of your resiliency, tenacity and determination. My fate is written by the same. In this we should both be encouraged and challenged. Be intrepid, and I will do the same. Alexander Michael Gittens Home Page © 2008-2007 Copyright Alexander Michael Gittens. Contents may be used without permission when credited |
