What is This?
To walk body bent and shoulders low
To sit and stare and thought forego
To lose one's heart in undertow...
(To rise an effort unwilling to give
To question at times, one's will to live)
To pen somber songs devoid of beat
To bury one's head beneath the sheets
Unable to perform the simplest feat,
Your heart declares your mind a cheat
(To commit to one course then change one's mind
To let one's duties fall behind)
To feel the sun upon one's face
Lo! it encroaches on another's place
To scorn it's celestial embrace
Your solidarity all at once replaced:
The dog, it's tail or the futile chase?
(To measure emotions on Kalvin's scale
To eschew the try and accept the fail)
To know yourself at once to be
The humanist of human beings
To not believe what's clearly seen
To now cheer for the visiting team
To lose your hope and fear your dreams
Then realize what this all must mean...
It is a man who loves a woman who's fading.
